These parameters are used to customize the data displayed and the format in which it is presented, primarily in historical data downloads (CSV format). Understanding these parameters allows users to extract specific information tailored to their needs, rather than relying on the default output.

The most common parameter is the s parameter, which specifies the stock ticker symbol. For example, s=AAPL retrieves data for Apple Inc. Without this, you won't get any ticker specific data.

Another key parameter is period1, representing the start date for the historical data. It requires a Unix timestamp (seconds since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 UTC). To get this value, you can use online converters. Similarly, period2 represents the end date, also in Unix timestamp format. Using accurate timestamps is critical to get the data for the correct time range. For example, period1=0&period2=1678886400 starts at the epoch and ends on March 15th, 2023.

The interval parameter determines the frequency of the data. Possible values include 1d (daily), 1wk (weekly), and 1mo (monthly). This allows users to choose the level of detail they require. A shorter interval will provide more data points in a given period.

The events parameter controls what kind of data is included in the download. The most frequently used value is history, which includes the typical Open, High, Low, Close, Adj Close, and Volume data. Other potential values might exist internally but are often undocumented and subject to change.

The crumb parameter is a security token required for some Yahoo Finance APIs. It's often paired with a cookie to prevent unauthorized access. Obtaining a valid crumb and its corresponding cookie usually involves making a separate request to a specific Yahoo Finance endpoint. However, this method is not officially supported and is subject to breakage as Yahoo updates its security measures. Therefore, relying on the crumb is not recommended for production systems.

The includeAdjustedClose parameter is often set to true to ensure that the closing prices are adjusted for dividends and stock splits. This provides a more accurate representation of the stock's performance over time. However, this adjustment is usually included by default nowadays and might be redundant.

It's important to remember that Yahoo Finance's API is not officially documented or supported. Parameters and their behavior can change without notice, potentially breaking applications that rely on them. While these parameters provide a way to access historical data, users should be aware of the risks and limitations involved, and consider using officially supported financial data APIs when available and appropriate for their needs.
